Price check

Price Check answers "how much is this, and do we have it?" without touching the sale. Arm the toggle next to the barcode box and every scan or tile tap shows a read-only price and availability card instead of adding to the cart.

Using Price Check

1. Tap Price check beside the scan box - the button arms visually.
2. Scan or tap items. Each one shows or refreshes the card. The scan box keeps focus, so a scan gun can price-check item after item back-to-back.
3. Use - / + on the card to change the quantity. Every step requests a fresh server quote for that quantity, variant, unit of measure, customer, and date context - so a Business Central quantity break can change both the unit price and the line total as you step.
4. Add to Sale adds the card's item to the cart at the stepper quantity and drops back to sell mode - adding means the customer is buying. Done closes without touching the cart.

What the card shows

• The effective price, with a was price when the item is discounted, and a tax hint (for example "Prices exclude tax.").
• A quantity stepper with a running line total, live-quoted from the server at each step.
• Per-location availability: stock at each location, with this store's own shelf pinned first when the store carries a Location Code - "do we have it" before anywhere else.
• For a POS item not mapped to a Business Central item: the price only, with "Availability is not tracked for this item."

Adding from the card

Price Check Add behaves like a real sale add, with two wrinkles worth knowing:

• If the item needs a variant and has no default, the variant chooser opens - and it retains the quantity you set on the card, so choosing a variant adds the full checked quantity rather than falling back to one unit.
• Adding a sold-by-weight item opens the weight-capture surface, the same as in sell mode.

After an add, the register returns to sell mode: the next scan sells instead of price-checking.

How availability is calculated

Availability is posted inventory (Item Ledger Entries) minus reserved quantity at the store's location and, where available, the variant. It is advisory:

• Open and released unposted POS sales do not reduce the number - stock changes when sales actually post.
• The figure never blocks a sale; an out-of-stock item still sells.

Pricing context

With an active sale on the register, Price Check quotes using that sale's frozen context - customer, pricing profile, tier, location, variant, unit of measure, quantity, and date. Mapped items therefore use the same standard Business Central price calculation as a real add; unmapped items use the POS shelf-price fallback. What the card shows is what Add to Sale would charge.

Availability of the feature

Price Check is available by default with zero configuration. A terminal can opt out with the Disable Price Check field on the POS Terminal card - the toggle then disappears from the register entirely, and the server refuses price-check requests from that terminal regardless of what the browser sends.
