Parking and resuming sales

Park a basket as a durable draft and resume it later from the Parked picker: what parking preserves, the sale-swap behavior, per-terminal scope, and why parked baskets are never auto-resumed.

Parking shelves the current basket as a durable draft - "hold this order" - and moves the register onto a fresh sale. The parked basket comes back only when you explicitly resume it, so baskets never get mixed up between customers.

Parking a sale

  1. Tap Park Sale in the recovery row. The basket is flagged with the real Parked status and the register immediately starts a fresh sale.
  2. The status bar shows a Parked (n) button counting this terminal's waiting baskets. The button only appears when at least one basket is parked.

Park Sale is disabled on an empty cart - parking an empty sale would only manufacture junk documents.

Resuming a sale

  1. Tap Parked (n) in the status bar.
  2. Pick the basket from the resume picker. Each row shows the document number, date, customer name, total, cashier, and shift - the customer name is usually the fastest recognizer.
  3. The register swaps sales: if your current draft is empty, it is discarded; if it has lines, it is parked in the picked basket's place.

That swap means you can bounce between two in-progress customers without ever losing either basket - resuming one parks the other.

TIP

Ask for the customer's name when you park - it is the column you will recognize instantly in the picker when they come back.

What parking preserves

A parked sale is the same sale document, untouched: its lines, quantities, prices, discounts and overrides, attached customer, and order details all come back exactly as you left them. Nothing is recalculated away by parking itself.

What parking does not do:

  • It does not hold payment. A parked basket is an open draft; tendering happens when the sale is completed. Captured card payments are a completion-time concern, not a parked-sale one.
  • It does not reserve stock. Availability numbers are advisory and unposted POS sales do not reduce them - see Stock availability.
  • It does not follow you across terminals. Parked baskets are scoped to the store and terminal that parked them - a basket parked on another till is that till's to resume.
  • It is never auto-resumed. Closing and reopening the register starts a fresh sale; parked baskets come back only through the picker.

NOTE

If a parked sale was completed from another session in the meantime, the picker shows a "no longer available" toast and refreshes - nothing breaks.

Parking versus cancelling

Park Sale is for a basket that will continue. Cancel Sale is for a basket that will not: after a required reason code and optional note, the sale is retained and locked as a Cancelled audit record - header, lines, and tenders kept read-only - rather than deleted. Cashier cancel can be disabled in POS Setup, in which case the register refuses with an "ask a supervisor" message. See the Register tour for the cancel flow.

Back office

The POS Sales Card in the back office has matching Park, Resume, and Cancel actions driven by the same engine, so a supervisor can manage parked baskets away from the till.
