Item labels
Print Code-128 shelf and product labels for POS items from the item list, card, or Admin role center, and scan them back at the register through the standard barcode pipeline.

Item labels are shelf and product labels with a Code-128 barcode that the register can scan. Print them for new items, price changes, or re-labeling a shelf edge, and every scan at the till resolves straight back to the item.
What it is
The POS Item Labels report renders a Code-128 barcode label per POS item. Because the barcode is a standard Code-128 symbol, any ordinary handheld or embedded scanner at the register reads it - no special hardware profile is needed.
Where to find it
- From the POS Item list or card, run the item labels action for the selected item(s).
- From the Admin role center, use the Item Labels action.
Printing flow
- Select the item (or items) to label from the POS Item list, or open a single POS Item card.
- Run Item Labels.
- Choose your printer and print. The report prints like any other Business Central report, so it can go to the browser's print dialog or to a printer registered in Business Central - reusing the same printers you already set up for receipts and documents. TIP
Print a single test label and scan it at a register before printing a batch. A ten-second scan test catches printer density and sizing issues before you have five hundred labels on the shelf.
Scanning printed labels
At the register, scanned label barcodes resolve through the standard scan pipeline - Business Central Item References of type Bar Code are the authoritative source, with legacy POS item barcodes as a fallback. NOTE
Item labels are product/shelf labels and are unrelated to kitchen labels, which are per-line preparation slips created when a sale completes. For those, see Kitchen output.
