Quick start: set up the POS

This quick start takes you from installing Bitta Retail POS to a first sale at the register: install the app, run one assisted setup, add a cashier and map your items. Business Central keeps your items, prices, tax and ledger, so there is nothing to sync. The full reading order of the guide is on the setup and user guide page.

Before you start

• The Business Central foundation described in POS prerequisites: posting groups on an existing customer, standard tax setup and payment methods with balancing accounts.
• Permission to install extensions in the environment.
• The BAA POS - Admin permission set for the person who runs setup, plus D365 BASIC. See POS user permissions.

Option A: try it on demo data

To see the register before you touch your own data, use an evaluation company:

1. Run Try Bitta Retail POS with Demo Data from Assisted Setup. It builds a demo store with two registers, items with barcodes and variants, customers and POS users.
2. Open the register on DEMO-T1 and unlock it as the cashier DEMO-CASH with PIN 3333.
3. Follow Try the demo store for a short tour, and Your first sale to ring a sale.

Option B: set up your own store

These seven steps lead to a first real sale on your own data. Each one links to the page with the full procedure.

1. Prepare Business Central: POS prerequisites.
2. Install the app and assign BAA POS - Admin, as described below.
3. Run the five-step assisted setup, and choose the Tender Settlement assist button in step 4 before Finish: Run the setup wizard.
4. Create a POS user for the cashier and give it a PIN: POS users and Set a PIN. The wizard's User Mapping button only opens POS Users; it does not create the cashier.
5. Create POS items or auto-map them to your Business Central items. End of Day cannot post a sale line whose item is not mapped: Item catalog setup.
6. Ring the first sale: unlock with the PIN, add an item, choose Exact cash and complete the sale. A shift is needed only when Require Open Shift is on in POS Setup, and it is off by default: Your first sale.
7. Run End of Day to post the day's sales as Business Central Sales Invoices: End of Day posting.

Install and open the assisted setup

1. Install Bitta Retail POS from Microsoft AppSource into your environment, or ask your Business Central administrator to install it. Afterwards it appears on the Extension Management page, published by Bitta Apps, LLC.

2. Assign BAA POS - Admin to yourself and to anyone else who will configure the app, next to D365 BASIC. Installation creates no POS setup, number series, customers, tenders, stores or terminals in any company, so this permission is what lets you create them.
3. Open the company where you want to sell, search for Assisted Setup in Tell Me, and find the two Bitta Retail POS entries in the Set up your company group: Set Up Bitta Retail POS and Try Bitta Retail POS with Demo Data.

Setup wizard

Set Up Bitta Retail POS is a five-step assisted setup that creates the first store and register in the current company:

• Step 1, First Register: store, Business Central location, tax method and register ID.
• Step 2, How This Register Works: Standard Checkout or Order and Fulfillment as the starting register profile.
• Step 3, Optional Services: card payments, receipt printing, kitchen output (Order and Fulfillment only) and scale, each starting at configure later, plus Create Starter Barcode Rules, which starts selected.
• Step 4, Business Central Readiness: cash customer, posting groups, location, tax, payment methods, tender settlement, user mapping and number series, each with an assist button.
• Step 5, Review and Finish: a summary of your choices before the store, register and register profile are created.

Before Finish, the Tender Settlement assist button creates the starter tenders so you can give each one a settlement account. On Finish the wizard creates the store and register, completes the number series and cash customer, and creates and assigns the register profile. Re-running it is safe; it pre-fills your existing setup. Demo data is a separate assisted setup, Try Bitta Retail POS with Demo Data, meant for evaluation companies.

First sale

Open POS Register from the Bitta Retail POS role center. A first sale takes four moves:

• Unlock the register with your POS user's PIN, and open a shift with its opening float if your store uses shifts.
• Scan a barcode or tap an item tile.
• Choose a tender and complete the sale.
• Hand over the receipt.

The sale is now a released POS sale. It reaches the general ledger when a manager runs End of Day, or when it is posted individually from POS Sales.

Add the extras when you need them

• Card payments: Stripe Terminal setup.
• Receipt printers and cash drawers: Receipt printers.
• Barcodes from Item References: Barcode setup.
• Shifts with an opening float: Shifts and Z reports.
• Loyalty programs: Loyalty programs.
• Kitchen tickets and labels: Kitchen tickets and labels.
• Weighed items: Sell by weight with scales.

Pricing and trial

Bitta Retail POS costs $29 per user per month through Microsoft Marketplace, or directly from Bitta Apps with an activation code. Both routes share one 30-day trial, which covers evaluation and setup. See Pricing and licenses.
