From problem to outcome
Business Central has no built-in consignment
There is no standard document type or ownership field for stock a vendor still owns, so consignment ends up in spreadsheets or in workarounds.
Workarounds distort the numbers
Zero-cost items, memo inventory accounts and purchase orders received but never invoiced each break something: margin, inventory value, planning or the audit trail.
Serials and lots get lost
High-value consignment such as implants, jewelry and parts needs the exact serial or lot from receipt to sale to vendor invoice. Workarounds rarely carry it through.
Vendors ask what sold
Without a ledger of vendor stock, settling with each vendor and answering what is on hand, sold or returned takes manual reconciliation every period.
How it works
- 1
Receive vendor stock
Post a consignment receipt with serials, lots, expiration dates, locations and bins. The stock goes into the Consignment Ledger, not your inventory value.
Read the chapter - 2
Sell it on normal orders
Add the item to a sales quote or order with the CONSIGN purchasing code. The vendor purchase order is created on release, and shipping buys and sells the unit in one step.
Read the chapter - 3
Settle with the vendor
Consignment Settlement creates one purchase invoice per vendor for what was sold, at the purchase price or a share of the sales price, and the vendor statement shows the period.
Read the chapter - 4
Run customer sites
Create a consignment site from a customer ship-to address, replenish it, invoice the usage the customer reports, and count the site.

Bitta Consignment in Business Central
Separate Consignment Ledger
Vendor-owned stock is tracked in its own ledger, with nothing posted to your item ledger, inventory value or general ledger until you sell or buy it.
Serial, lot and expiry tracking
Receipts carry serial numbers, lots, packages and expiration dates. Pick the exact serials and lots to sell, or assign them automatically first in, first out or first expiry, first out.
Drop-ship sales on standard orders
A consignment sale is a standard drop shipment, so partners and auditors recognise every posting.
Commitment that prevents double selling
A consigned serial can be on one open order only, and no order can promise more than the vendor holds. The Consignment Stock FactBox shows what is available.
Move, adjust and count
Transfers between locations and bins, adjustments with reason codes, a consignment journal and physical counts with printable count sheets.
Vendor settlement and statement
One purchase invoice per vendor for the period, priced at the purchase price or a share of the sales price, plus a vendor statement you can print or send.
Returns both ways
Return unsold stock to the vendor, and put customer returns back into the vendor's consignment stock through a linked purchase return order.
Buy-out and aging
Buy aged stock into your own inventory with an ownership change. Aging rules per vendor propose ownership changes or returns for review, and never post by themselves.
Customer consignment sites
Keep your own stock at customer sites as normal locations, replenish from reorder points, invoice reported usage and reconcile site counts.
Visible everywhere
Consignment entries appear in Find entries, in the serial and lot search and in posting previews, with FactBoxes on items, vendors, customers and sales lines.

Frequently asked questions
What is Bitta Consignment?
A Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central app from Bitta Apps for vendor consignment (stock a vendor still owns, held at your locations) and customer consignment (your own stock kept at a customer's site).
Does vendor stock change my inventory value?
No. Vendor-owned stock is kept in a separate Consignment Ledger. It does not post to your item ledger, inventory value or general ledger until you sell it or buy it out with an ownership change.
How is a consignment sale posted?
As a standard Business Central drop shipment. The CONSIGN purchasing code on the sales line creates a purchase order to the vendor, and shipping posts the purchase receipt and the sales shipment together.
Does it support serial numbers, lots and expiration dates?
Yes. Consignment receipts carry serial numbers, lots, packages and expiration dates. The exact serial or lot you sell is carried to the purchase order and the shipment, and commitment stops the same serial being promised to two orders.
What does it cost?
Per consignment user per month: Starter (3-10 users) USD 19, Team (11-25 users) USD 15, Business (26 or more users) USD 12. Annual billing is 10 times the monthly price. The minimum is 3 users. Services, taxes and Microsoft licenses are separate.
Is there a trial?
Yes. Request a 30-day trial code for 3 consignment users. Bitta Apps sends an activation code; installing the app does not start a trial by itself. One trial per Microsoft Entra tenant.
Which Business Central versions are supported?
Business Central online, version 28 or later.
