Bitta Commission guide
Guided setup wizard
Step through the Set Up Bitta Commission wizard: company basics, salesperson selection, the eight plan styles, the last-month preview and creating a reviewed setup.
status: verified applies-to: 1.1.2.0rev: 1
The Set Up Bitta Commission wizard creates a working commission setup for your existing salespeople in a few steps. It asks when earning starts, who earns and how they earn, previews last month's results, and then creates participants, a Draft plan and assignments in one reviewed batch.
Before you start
- Install the app and activate a trial or subscription. See Activate a license.
- You need the Bitta Commission Setup Administrator permission set (BAA Comm Setup Admin).
- Your salespeople must exist as Salespeople/Purchasers in Business Central. The wizard reads them; it does not rename or change them.
- Decide which plan style you need. If it uses an optional module (see the table below), the wizard switches that module on when you choose Create Setup. You need the Setup Administrator permission set and a license tier that includes the module.
Your choices are saved for your user and company after every step. You can close the wizard with Save and close and resume later.
Step 1: Get started
Open Set Up Bitta Commission. The first step shows the company and your verified license: License state, Expires on, Days remaining and Active payee limit.
In What would you like to do?, choose:
- Set Up My Company to configure your real salespeople.
- Create Demo to create an isolated sample in an evaluation company. See Try it with demo data.
If the license needs attention, turn on Show advanced options and open License and recovery.
Step 2: Company basics
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Company currency | Shows the local currency used by the setup. |
| Start earning on | The first date for the calendar, participant versions, mappings and assignments. Required. |
| End earning on | The last date. Leave blank to continue without an end date. |
| Commission calendar | The calendar used for commission periods. If you enter a new code, Create Setup creates the calendar and a period covering your dates. Existing periods are never changed. |
| Sales source | Describes the supported source: native posted sales invoices and credit memos, attributed by Salesperson/Purchaser, with eligibility On Posting, 100 percent, no hold days. |
When you choose Next, the wizard discovers your salespeople.
Step 3: Who earns
The list shows every discovered salesperson. Select Include for each one who earns commission, or use Select All, Select Members of a Team or Find New Salespeople.
A Business Central login is optional here. Selecting a salesperson makes them a paid participant; giving a user access is a separate choice in step 5.
For a single salesperson you can select Individual rate and enter Individual rate (%) to prepare a separate flat-rate plan for that person.
Step 4: How they earn
Choose Create from a template to describe a new plan, or Use an existing draft to assign an existing Draft plan version. For a new plan, enter a Plan name and choose a style in How do you pay?. The wizard fills in sensible defaults and shows a worked Example that updates as you type.
| Plan style | What you enter | What it creates | Module needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Percent of sales | Rate (%). Optionally Use each salesperson commission percentage | A Flat Rate component on net sales | Core |
| Percent of margin | Percent of margin (%) | A Flat Rate component on gross margin (sales less cost) | Core |
| Amount per unit sold | Amount per unit | A Per Unit component on base quantity | Advanced commission models |
| Tiered rates | Rate (%), First tier ends at, Rate above first tier (%), How tiers pay | A Progressive Tier or Retroactive Tier component with two bands | Core |
| Bonus for reaching a target | Sales target per period, Bonus amount | A Bonus component that pays at 100 percent attainment, with each salesperson's period target | Advanced commission models and Quotas and targets |
| SPIFF on selected items | Items (item filter), Amount per qualifying sale, SPIFF starts on, SPIFF ends on | A SPIFF component for sales of the selected items in the window | Advanced commission models |
| Manager override on team sales | Override on team sales (%) | A Manager Override component on the credited sales of the team reporting to the manager | Advanced commission models |
| Draw against commission | Commission on sales (%), Draw per period, Recover the draw from later commission | A Flat Rate component plus a Draw component that tops commission up to the draw | Advanced commission models |
How tiers pay offers two options. Each rate on the sales in its tier (progressive) pays each rate only on the sales inside its tier. One rate on all sales once a tier is reached (retroactive) pays the reached tier rate on all sales in the period.
The wizard checks your inputs before it continues. For example, a rate must be above zero and at most 100, a SPIFF window must lie inside the earning dates, and the item filter must select at least one item.
Step 5: Assignments and optional access
Every selected salesperson receives a direct assignment to the plan. For each row you can optionally choose a BC user for participant access and a team membership. Team membership is organizational only; it does not create pooled commission, manager overrides or roll-ups.
Operator roles, scopes and independent approvers are set up separately. Use Advanced -> Operator Roles and Scopes or Approval Policies.
Step 6: Review and create
The review shows Selected salespeople, New participants, Existing participants, Active participants in company, Active participants after setup and Licensed active participant limit. Existing participants are matched by their saved salesperson identity, never by name. Rows with conflicts appear in Rows needing attention.
What each salesperson would have earned prices last month's posted sales invoices with the chosen plan. It shows invoice count, sales, margin, units, the priced base and the commission per salesperson, plus a total. Nothing is saved and nothing is calculated or posted. Choose Refresh Preview after changing inputs.
When the review is clean, choose Create Setup. The wizard rechecks the exact saved choices and then creates, row by row:
- the participant and its dated salesperson mapping (or reuses an existing one),
- a participant effective version for your dates,
- the Draft plan with its components, rates and immediate eligibility,
- a 100 percent direct assignment and the calculation period.
Each row is created separately, so one failed row does not undo the others. A failed row shows its reason and can be retried.
NOTE
Create Setup never approves or publishes a plan. New plans stay Draft until they are validated, submitted, approved by an independent approver and published.
Step 7: Results and next steps
The results step shows Configuration complete, Configuration review, Completed rows and the created records. From here:
- Review Created Plan opens the plan to validate, submit for approval and publish. See Plans, versions, and assignments.
- Check Configuration opens the setup checklist with focused repair actions.
- New Setup Batch starts another setup with new selections. Earlier receipts are kept.
- Finish closes the wizard.
If you selected BC users, an administrator must assign the Bitta Commission Participant permission set (BAA Comm Participant) to those users. A commission scope does not grant Business Central permissions.
After the wizard, the Bitta Commission Setup Checklist guides the next steps with Next Recommended Step and Do Next Step, including Prepare Company Defaults, Copy Plan to Next Year and Add Another Plan from a Template. See Implementation paths and templates.
What to check if it goes wrong
| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| A module or license tier error when creating setup | The plan style needs a module your license tier does not include, or you lack the Setup Administrator permission set. Ask an administrator, or choose a style that uses the core models. |
| Capacity message on review | All active participants count toward the license limit. Select fewer new earners or review existing active participants. |
| Calendar does not cover the dates | Choose covered dates, or enter a new calendar code in Company basics. |
| The saved choices changed after review | Choose Back and then Next to review again. |
