Bitta Commission guide
Accounting and posting
Configure Commission Posting Setup and account mappings, then build, validate, approve, preview and post accounting proposals, including clearing, payroll clearing, suspense reclassification and accrual adjustments.

Bitta Commission posts commission to the general ledger through accounting proposals. A proposal is a balanced set of journal lines built from a frozen settlement or an accounting event. It is validated, approved by a second person, previewed with the standard Business Central posting preview, and then posted through a dedicated general journal batch. Every line is also kept in an append-only commission accounting subledger.
Commission Posting Setup defines the journal batch, posting date rule and control accounts.
An accounting proposal is validated and approved before it posts to the G/L.
Account mappings choose the expense and liability accounts per event, component or participant type.

This page explains what the app configures and records. Your finance owner decides the accounting policy, the accounts and the timing.
Before you start
- You need finance-wide access, typically through the Bitta Commission Accountant permission set. Users without it see "Finance-wide access is required".
- Create G/L accounts for commission expense and commission liability, and any clearing, suspense or recoverable accounts you plan to use.
- Create a dedicated general journal batch for commission. Its number series and posting number series must be blank, because proposals own their document numbers.
- Set up one active approval policy for accounting posting (document type ACCOUNTING-POST) with a separate finance approver. Without it, submitting a proposal is refused with BAA-WFL-POLICY. See Approvals and notifications.
Step 1: Configure Commission Posting Setup
Open Commission Posting Setup. Choose Suggest Values to fill blank fields from your general journals and chart of accounts. Posting stays switched off while you review. Then complete the fields and choose Save configuration.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Posting Enabled | Switches G/L posting on. |
| Journal Template Name / Journal Batch Name | The dedicated commission journal batch. |
| Source Code | The source code on posted entries. Entries with this source code are never captured back into commission. |
| Posting Date Rule | Settlement Date, Period End, Work Date, Source Date or Manual. |
| Document No. Series Code | Assigns one document number per proposal. Retries reuse the stored number. |
| Require Posting Preview | The standard posting preview must succeed before posting. |
| Require Reconciliation | Reconciliation is required for the posting configuration. |
| Partial / Final / Delta Doc. No. Series | Optional separate number series for partial, final and delta settlement documents. |
| Suspense Account No. / Suspense Bal. Account No. | Where earnings with no resolvable mapping go. Leave both blank to block such proposals instead. Every suspense posting raises an exception. |
| Payroll Clearing Account No. | Credited by the payroll clearing journal. |
| Recoverable Account No. | Default receivable for overpaid commission. |
| AP Clearing Account No. / Intercompany Clearing Acc. No. | Clearing targets for AP-paid lines and for pay groups paid by another company. |
| Realized / Unrealized FX Gain and Loss, FX Rounding | FX accounts. See Multi-currency. |
Step 2: Map accounts
Open Commission Account Mappings.
- Choose Suggest from Chart of Accounts to propose an accrual mapping from G/L accounts named for commission expense and commission liability, with deferral accounts when they exist. You review the proposal before saving.
- Or choose New mapping and fill in Commission Account Mapping: the Accounting Event Type (Accrual or Reversal), optionally a Component ID or Participant Type, the G/L Account No. (expense) and Bal. G/L Account No. (liability), the Dimension Policy Code, a Priority, and the effective dates.
The Role accounts group adds the clearing account, deferred asset and amortization accounts, fringe expense and liability accounts, a prior-period adjustment account, and a recoverable account. Edit mapping changes a mapping through the same validation. Existing proposals keep their snapshots.
NOTE
Every account must be an unblocked posting account that allows direct posting. The dimension policy must be SOURCE, which carries the dimensions of the source document to every accounting line.
Step 3: Create and review accounting policies
Commission Accounting Policies lists the accounting policies that plan components use, with their Recognition Mode, Expense Timing, Liability Timing, Closed Period Behavior, effective dates and Status (Draft, Active or Retired). Prepare Company Defaults creates an expense-when-earned policy for you, and you can create your own policies next to it.
Create an accounting policy
You need the Bitta Commission Accountant or Bitta Commission Setup Administrator permission set. Other roles see the list without the authoring actions.
- Open Commission Accounting Policies and choose New accounting policy.
- On Commission Accounting Policy Draft, enter a new Policy code and a Description.
- Enter Effective from, and Effective through if the policy ends. Leave Effective through blank for an open-ended policy. A component can use the policy only if the policy covers all of the component dates.
- Choose the Recognition mode: Expense When Earned or Expense When Eligible. When the Deferred commission accounting module is on, Capitalize and Amortize is also offered, with Benefit period months. See Deferred commission accounting.
- Choose the Expense timing and Liability timing (Earned, Eligible or Settled) and the Closed period behavior (Block, Next Open Period, Original If Open or Require Reopen).
- Choose OK. The policy is saved as a Draft, version 1.
- Select the draft and choose Validate. The app checks the dates and the combination and changes nothing.
- Choose Activate. From then on the version is immutable, and it appears in the Accounting Policy lookup of draft plan components whose dates it covers.
While a policy is a draft you can choose Edit draft or Delete draft. A draft cannot be chosen on a component.
Change an active policy
An active version never changes, because components and posted accounting entries point to it. To change a policy, select it and choose New version. Pick new effective dates; each version of a code needs its own Effective from date. The app copies the version, with its policy setting, into the next draft version. Change it with Edit draft, then validate and activate it. Components keep the version they already use until you choose the new version on a draft component.
What the app refuses
The dialog offers only the combinations the accounting engine supports. The same rule is checked again when you save and when you activate:
- Paid or scheduled timing and custom schedule recognition are refused with BAA-PLAN-ACCOUNTING-POLICY.
- A Capitalize and Amortize policy is refused with BAA-FEATURE-OFF while the Deferred commission accounting module is off, and with BAA-ACC-BENEFIT-PERIOD without a benefit period of 1 to 600 months.
- An existing code is refused with BAA-ACC-POLICY-EXISTS. Use New version instead.
- A version that starts on the same date as another version of the code is refused with BAA-ACC-POLICY-DATE.
- A page that was open while someone else changed the draft is refused with BAA-ACC-POLICY-STALE. Refresh and try again.
Every create, change, activation and deletion is recorded in the audit trail with the policy hash before and after.
Policy settings
On Commission Accounting Policy Settings you set, per policy version:
- Fringe Load Percent posts a separate employer cost expense and liability pair beside each commission. It never determines payroll tax.
- Closed Period Target decides where a posting whose original period is closed goes: Policy Default, Next Open Period, Original Period, or Adjustment Period with an Adjustment Posting Date.
- Benefit Period Source and Benefit Period Months apply to capitalized commission. See Deferred commission accounting.
Step 4: Build, validate, approve and post a proposal
- Open a frozen settlement and choose Create accounting proposal. The draft opens on Commission Accounting Proposal.
- Choose Build proposal. The expense and liability lines are built from the frozen settlement's earnings, with their dimensions and the resolved posting date.
- Choose Validate proposal. Mapping, balance, date, dimension and source-evidence findings are listed on Commission Finance Validation. The status becomes Validated or Validation Failed.
- Choose Submit for approval.
- A different user, the assigned finance approver, chooses Approve proposal or Reject proposal with a reason. The creator cannot approve their own proposal. Approved lines are frozen.
- Choose Preview posting to run the standard Business Central posting preview. Nothing durable is created.
- Choose Post to G/L. The proposal posts through the commission journal batch and becomes Posted.
- Choose Create reconciliation to open a zero-tolerance reconciliation for the posted proposal. See Reconciliation.
Proposal statuses: Draft, Validated, Validation Failed, Approval Pending, Approved, Posting, Posted, Posting Failed, Cancelled and Reversed.
If you need to change an unposted proposal, choose Cancel and create replacement (as the creator) and give a reason and an evidence reference on Commission Posting Details. The replacement needs a fresh build, validation and approval. If a matching G/L posting already exists, Reconcile existing G/L posting links it without posting again.
Follow-on proposals
From a posted proposal you can create event proposals. Each goes through the same validate, approve and post steps.
| Action | What it posts |
|---|---|
| Create clearing proposal | Relieves the settlement's posted liability to the clearing account once the settlement is exported or paid. Posted adjustment liability is relieved with it. |
| Post payroll clearing journal | One general journal document that moves the liability of payroll-paid lines to the payroll clearing account. Preview payroll clearing journal shows it first. |
| Create AP invoices | One purchase invoice per vendor-linked line. See Vendor payments through Payables. |
| Create suspense reclassification | Moves posted suspense entries to accounts that can now be resolved. |
| Create accrual adjustment | Posts only the delta of corrected earnings already accounted through this settlement. |
| Create FX proposal | Posts realized, unrealized and rounding FX adjustments in local currency. |
Accrual adjustments
When a return or correction changes an earning whose accrual was already posted, Create accrual adjustment posts only the correction delta, as an adjustment expense and adjustment liability pair against the original lineage. The posted adjustment is then paid through the original settlement line's AP or payroll documents, and clearing relieves it together with the original accrual. An adjustment is refused while the corrected earning sits in an unfrozen settlement, and corrections under a capitalize policy are refused.
The accounting subledger
Commission Accounting Entries lists every accounting line with its Accounting Event Type, Account Role Code (expense, liability, clearing, suspense, deferred asset, amortization, fringe or prior-period adjustment), G/L Account No., Signed Amount (positive is debit), dimensions, the earning and settlement it belongs to, and an Entry Hash. Entries that were moved out of a closed period show Original Posting Date and Prior Period Adjustment. Clearing, reclassification, adjustment and amortization entries point to the posted entry they derive from.
Troubleshooting
- "Commission Core requires G/L posting, valid distinct posting accounts, Accrual or Reversal mappings, and SOURCE dimensions." Complete Commission Posting Setup and the account mappings.
- BAA-ACC-MIXED-POSTING-DATE. The earnings resolve to different permitted posting dates. Split the settlement by accounting policy.
- BAA-ACC-PREVIEW-PERMISSION. The preview needs journal line insert, modify and delete permissions.
- Suspense postings appear. An earning had no matching mapping. Add the mapping, then create a suspense reclassification.
