Install and activate

Activate a license

Activate a Bitta Commission 30-day trial or subscription with the code Bitta Apps issues, or a signed offline file, then check the verified license state.

updated: applies-to: 1.2.0.0

Bitta Commission needs a verified license before it calculates commission, produces settlement output or posts to the general ledger. Installing the app never starts a trial: you request a free 30-day trial code from Bitta Apps and activate it on Bitta Commission Setup. This page shows how to activate with a code or a signed offline file, what the license fields mean and what to do in a sandbox.

Before you start

  • Get an activation code. Request a 30-day trial code from Bitta Apps, or use the code that comes with your subscription. The 30-Day Trial text on the setup page says it plainly: "Request a 30-day production trial from Bitta Apps and obtain its activation code. Installation alone does not activate the trial."
  • Know the trial limits. A trial runs for 30 days and covers up to 5 active salespeople (active participants) in 1 production company. The app never lets a trial exceed 5 active participants, even if the issued license shows a higher number.
  • Have the right permission set. Only a user with Bitta Commission Setup Administrator (BAA Comm Setup Admin) assigned in this company can enter the code or run the license actions. For other users, Activation Code is read-only and the license actions are unavailable.
  • In a sandbox, allow outbound requests first. See Activate in a sandbox.

Keep the activation code private. Do not paste it into support emails or tickets.

Activate with an activation code

  1. Search for Bitta Commission Setup in Tell Me and open it. Scroll to the License group and read 30-Day Trial and Activate Your Trial.

Step 1: the License group on Bitta Commission Setup.
  1. Paste your code into Activation Code. The field is masked. The code is converted to a secret value as soon as you use it and is never stored or shown again.
  2. Choose Activate License. The app sends one request to the Bitta Apps license service and verifies the signed response. On success, the message reads "Online license activation completed." Close the message and check the License group. State shows Trial for a trial or Active for a subscription, and Valid Through shows when the verified license ends.

Step 3: the verified trial and its limits.

After a successful activation, the app creates the job queue entry Refresh Bitta Commission license, which runs once a day from 24 hours after activation. See License lifecycle.

The license fields

Field What it shows
30-Day Trial How to request a publisher-issued trial and verify its expiry and capacity.
Activate Your Trial The setup role and the activation or signed offline import actions.
State The current verified license state, for example Trial or Active.
Valid Through When the current verified license ends.
Payee Limit The maximum number of active payees (active participants) the license allows.
Company Limit The maximum number of companies the license allows.
Diagnostic A safe diagnostic code. It never shows license identifiers or the activation code.
Activation Code Where you paste the code. It is never stored.

Before the first activation in an environment, State is blank and Diagnostic shows BAACOMM-PUB-LICENSE-BOOTSTRAP-001. That is expected: the app creates the license identity of the environment during the first activation.

What the activation request sends

When you choose Activate License, the app sends the Bitta Apps license service:

  • the app identifier and app version;
  • your Microsoft Entra tenant ID;
  • an environment ID that the app generates and stores, and the environment name;
  • the company's system ID;
  • the number of active participants in the company;
  • the activation code and a one-time request value.

No commission, sales or customer records are sent. The license that comes back is bound to the tenant, the environment and the company, and the app verifies its signature before it accepts it.

Activate with an offline license file

If Bitta Apps sends you a signed offline license file instead of a code, open Bitta Commission Setup and choose Import Offline License. In the Import offline license envelope dialog, select the JSON file.

Offline: select the signed license file.

The app verifies the file and confirms "Offline license import completed." If the file cannot be imported, the message asks you to check that you selected the unchanged, signed license file from Bitta Apps for this company. Close the message and check State and Valid Through in the License group.

The raw file is not stored. An expired file can still be imported as history: the message says the license has expired, was verified and kept for your records, but does not license Bitta Commission.

Activate from the guided setup

The first step of Set Up Bitta Commission, Get started, shows License state, Expires on, Days remaining and Active payee limit. If the license is Trial or Active, the step reads "This verified license will be reused. No new trial activation is required." Otherwise, choose Advanced, then License and Recovery, to open Bitta Commission Setup and activate there.

The guided setup shows the same license on its first step.

Activate in a sandbox

Business Central sandboxes block outbound HTTP requests from extensions until you allow them. Before you activate in a sandbox, open Extension Management, select Bitta Commission, open its extension settings and turn on Allow HttpClient Requests.

Sandboxes only: allow the activation request.

Then return to Bitta Commission Setup and choose Activate License again.

If the request cannot reach the license service, the message shows the reference BAACOMM-PUB-PROV-TRANSPORT-001. As an alternative, ask Bitta Apps for a signed offline license file, which needs no outbound request.

If activation fails

Message or code What to do
BAACOMM-PUB-LICENSE-ADMIN-001 Ask an administrator to assign BAA Comm Setup Admin to you in this company.
BAACOMM-PUB-PROV-TRANSPORT-001 The license service could not be reached. In a sandbox, allow HttpClient requests, then try again.
"The license service reported an activation conflict (HTTP 409)..." Ask Bitta Apps to check the activation code and its company and environment association.
"The license service rejected the request..." Ask Bitta Apps to check the activation details.
"Too many license requests were sent (HTTP 429)..." Wait a few minutes, then try again.
"The license service did not respond in time" or "is temporarily unavailable" Try again later.

The license service messages end with a reference code. Send that reference, never the activation code, to Bitta Apps. For more symptoms, see Troubleshooting.

What's next

Run the guided setup for your company: Run the guided setup. Set Up Bitta Commission takes you to running commission in one pass: it reuses the license you just activated, and when you choose Finish on its Review step it creates your salespeople and plan, approves and publishes the plan, and starts capturing posted sales and calculating commission every day. For plan prices, see Pricing and trial.
