Bitta Commission gives sales teams and finance a forward view of commission. Sales reps and managers see an Estimated Commission on open sales documents before they are posted. Finance and administrators refresh a Commission Forecast of future earnings, payment timing and liability, and review Commission Anomalies that flag unusual results. Every amount on these pages is a modeled outcome. None of it becomes an earning, a balance or a payment.

Before you start

  • Document estimates need a published plan version, a participant linked to the document's salesperson, and a commission period covering the document date. See Participants and payees.
  • The forecast and the anomaly worklist are part of the Simulation and forecasting module. Switch it on in Commission Feature Management. See Turn features on as you grow.
  • Commission Forecast, Commission Anomalies and Anomaly Rules open only for users with the Bitta Commission Setup Administrator permission set or a Finance (all participants) scope. Other users get BAA-SIM-SCOPE.

Estimate commission on an open sales document

Sales quotes, sales orders and unposted sales invoices show an Estimated Commission FactBox.

  1. Open the sales quote, order or invoice and make sure Salesperson Code is filled in.
  2. Read the FactBox:
Field What it shows
Estimated Commission (LCY) The modeled commission across all plan components for this document.
Participant The participant resolved from the document's salesperson.
Components Modeled How many plan components could be estimated.
Note Why part of the estimate could not be modeled, if anything.
  1. Choose Open Estimate to open Commission Estimate with one line per component.

The estimate adds the document amount (in local currency) to the participant's period-to-date base, so tiers and quota attainment reflect what has already been earned in the period. Each line shows the plan and version, component and model, Hypothetical Base, Period-To-Date Base, Projected Base, Estimated Commission, Effective Rate %, Quota Target, Attainment Before % and Attainment After %, the Eligibility Trigger and the Expected Eligible Date under the payment policy, and an Explanation.

Components that pay only at period close show Calculated at Period Close instead of a per-document amount. If the document has no salesperson, or the salesperson has no effective participant link on the document date, the FactBox explains why no estimate is shown.

TIP

The estimate is recalculated each time the document is shown, so it changes as you edit lines. It is not saved and does not reserve anything.

Refresh the commission forecast

  1. Open Commission Forecast.
  2. Choose Refresh Forecast. The app appends a new forecast version built from the trailing three periods of earnings, the open pipeline of sales documents and the current balance positions, over a six-period horizon, and marks it current.
  3. Review the rows. Choose Show All Versions to compare with earlier versions and Show Current Version to return.

The forecast needs a commission period that covers the work date. Earlier versions are never overwritten.

Read the forecast rows

Field What it shows
Metric Code Whether the row forecasts earnings, eligibility timing or liability.
Forecast Source Run-rate, open pipeline or ledger positions.
Period, Bucket Date The commission period bucket.
Participant No. The participant, or blank for company-level rows.
Expected Amount The probability-weighted expected amount.
Conservative Amount, Upside Amount The low and high ends of the range.
Probability Percent, Confidence Percent The probability applied and the confidence in the method.
Liability Date, Cash Date When the amount is expected to be recognized and to become eligible for payment.
Deferred Asset Date When a capitalized commission cost for the row would start to release.
Explanation How the row was derived.

Pipeline rows weight each open document by its type: 25 percent for a quote, 75 percent for an order and 100 percent for an unposted invoice. Run-rate rows project forward from the earnings of the trailing periods.

Review anomalies

The anomaly detector checks recent results against deterministic rules and raises alerts for a reviewer.

  1. Open Commission Anomalies and choose Run Detection. Every enabled rule runs over the last 30 days. An alert is never raised twice for the same finding.
  2. Review each alert: Severity Code, Rule, Participant No., Earning Entry No. or Source Fact Entry No., Observed Value against Expected Value and the accepted range, and Reason.
  3. Decide: Acknowledge marks the alert as reviewed and routed, Dismiss as False Positive marks it as a false positive, and Apply Proposed Disposition applies what the detector proposed (INVESTIGATE, ACKNOWLEDGE or DISMISS).
  4. Choose Open Earning to go to the earning an alert refers to.

The alert and its evidence are kept whatever you decide.

Anomaly rules

Choose Anomaly Rules to tune the detectors. Add Default Rules adds any missing default rule.

Detector Flags
OUTLIER-AMOUNT An earning far above the participant's history.
DUPLICATE-SOURCE Duplicate-looking source facts.
NEGATIVE-BALANCE A participant owed position below zero.
UNUSUAL-RATE An effective rate outside the rate table.
UNEXPECTED-ZERO A zero earning on a non-zero base.
MISSING-CREDIT An included sale with no credit entry.
ABRUPT-CHANGE Period earnings that changed sharply versus the prior period.

For each rule you can set Enabled, Threshold Factor (standard deviations for outliers, tolerance for rates, multiple for abrupt change), Minimum Amount, Minimum History Count, History Lookback Days, Severity and a default owner.

Run the forecast and detection on a schedule

The forecast refresh and the anomaly scan can also run from the job queue. On Commission Source Capture Setup, Register Scanner Jobs creates their job queue entries, together with the other extended scanners, in On Hold status. Review the schedule and set them to Ready. See Job queues, monitoring, and diagnostics.
