Bitta Commission guide

Explain any earning

Answer why a participant received an amount: the Commission Earning card, tier calculation details, the calculation trace, credit rule traces, difference explanations and the optional Explain This Earning draft.

"Why did I get this amount?" is the most common commission question. Bitta Commission records every calculation step when an earning is written, so you can walk from the amount back to the posted document, the credit decision, the rate or tier, any modifiers, and the rounding. This page shows where to look and in what order.

My Calculation Trace explains each step of the rep's own earnings.

Before you start

  • You need read access to the earning. Users with a limited reporting scope only see participants in their scope. See Roles and permissions.
  • Sales reps use their own read-only pages, My Earnings and My Calculation Trace, described below.
  • The trace exists for every earning written by a calculation run. Trial runs do not write traces. They show an Explanation per result line instead. See Calculation runs and schedules.

Answer "why this amount" in five steps

  1. Find the earning. Open Commission Earnings and filter on the participant, date or document. Open the line to see the Commission Earning card.
  2. Read the headline numbers. In the Participant group, Final Earning Amount is what was written. Prior Recognized Entitlement, Current Cumulative Entitlement and Delta Amount show how cumulative models add only the difference since the last earning.
  3. Read the calculation details. The Calculation Details group shows the base before and after this document (Prior Base Value, Current Base Value), the Resolved Rate, any Multiplier, the quota Target Value and Attainment Percent, and the rounding (Pre-Round Entitlement, Rounding Adjustment, Amount Precision).
  4. Read the tier lines. The Tier Calculation Details part lists one row per band the document passed through, with the bounds, the value in the band, the rate and the amount. Modifier rows explain hurdles, accelerators, weights, proration, caps, floors, gates, end-dating, pairing, formulas and percent-of-quota steps. For a modifier row, the lower and upper bounds hold the entitlement before and after that step.
  5. Open the full trace. Choose Trace Nodes to open Commission Calculation Trace, the step-by-step record described below.

TIP

If Unmodified Entitlement is filled in, a modifier changed the result. Compare it with Current Cumulative Entitlement and look for the MODIFIER rows in Tier Calculation Details. Modifier Codes lists which ones were evaluated.

For sales reps: My Earnings and Explain

A sales rep with the Bitta Commission Participant permission set can answer "why did I get this amount" without asking finance:

  1. Open My Commission and choose My Earnings, or choose the Earning Amount tile.
  2. Open an earning. The My Earning card shows the headline numbers, the Calculation Details and Tier Calculation Details.
  3. Choose Explain to open My Calculation Trace, the same step-by-step record as the finance trace below.

These pages are read-only and show only the rep's own earnings: the participant linked to the user, or named in the user's Participant only scope. A team, hierarchy or finance scope does not widen them. Opening another participant's earning, for example from an edited link, is refused with BAA-RPT-MY-SCOPE.

The calculation trace

Commission Calculation Trace lists the nodes of one earning in order (Node Sequence). Each node has a Trace Node Type:

Node type What it explains
Source The source fact that started the calculation.
Classification, Credit Which credit rule won and how much credit the participant received.
Measure, Attainment The measured value and the attainment against any target.
Tier, Formula The rate table bands or the formula that priced the base.
Earning The resulting entitlement, true-up and rounding.
Eligibility How the earning moved between pending and eligible.
Correction A return or correction delta.
Settlement, Accounting Later settlement and posting steps.

For every node you see the Decision Code (for example SOURCE, ATTAINMENT, TRUE-UP or a modifier code), a readable Description, and the Input Value, Parameter Value and Output Value. Reference Table No. and Reference ID point to the evidence record the step used.

Other places that explain a result

Question Where to look
Which posted document is this? Source Evidence on the earning opens the source fact, and from there Posted Sales Document.
Why did this participant get the credit? Credit Explorer, then Rule Traces, opens Credit Rule Traces: the winning rule, the losing rules, how many rules matched or failed, and the explanation. It also records overrides, additive credits, caps and unassigned credit. See Crediting rules, splits, and overrides.
Why did the amount change after a return or correction? Correction Links, then Difference Explanation, opens Commission Difference Explanations with the cause, the old amount, the delta and the new amount, and the settlement that had already paid the original.
What else happened to this sale? Original and Return Earnings lists every earning for the same participant, component and correction root.
Which run produced this? Calculation Run opens the run and its stage control totals.
Why is the money still pending? The eligibility nodes of the trace name the controlling policy, the payment behind each release, and any aging rule or hold. See Eligibility, aging, and holds.
How was a period-level bonus or ranking paid? Commission Period Earnings shows the base, baseline, rank, share and an Explanation for period-close earnings, with True-Up Chain for later adjustments.

Explain This Earning (AI draft)

The Commission Earning card includes an Explain This Earning part. Choose Explain this earning to get a plain-language draft that describes how the earning was calculated.

  • It only works when the AI plan drafting module is switched on in Commission Feature Management, earning explanations are enabled in Commission AI Setup, and there is an Active consent for EXPLAIN-EARNING on Commission AI Consents. The Status field tells you which is missing. While the module is off, the action is hidden and a call is refused with BAA-FEATURE-OFF.
  • You must have scope to the earning's participant.
  • The output is labeled as a draft for human review. It changes nothing: no earning, plan or payment is touched.
  • Every call writes a row to Commission AI Call Audit.
  • In Release 1.1 the provider is a deterministic template that runs inside Business Central and does not call an external AI service.

See AI plan design assistant for setup and consent.

How it works behind the scenes

  • Earnings and trace nodes are written in the same calculation and cannot be edited or deleted afterwards.
  • Each earning keeps its Calculation Input Hash, Calculation Definition Hash and Entry Hash, and each trace node keeps its own Entry Hash. Together they let an auditor confirm that the trace belongs to the stored earning and to the plan definition in force at the time.
  • A correction never rewrites the original. It adds a delta earning with its own trace and a difference explanation.

If the numbers still look wrong

  • Check that the right plan version and period were used. Both are on the Calculation Run.
  • Check the credit decision in Credit Rule Traces before the rate. Most surprises come from who got credit, not from the rate.
  • If the source data was wrong, correct it at the source or with a governed correction. Do not expect an edit to the earning. See Returns and corrections.
