Commission on sales documents

See the estimated commission on quotes, orders and invoices, and explain how it is calculated.

updated: applies-to: 2.0.0.0

You see the commission on a sales quote, order, invoice, credit memo or return order before you post it. Two FactBoxes and the Explain Commission page show who earns, how much and why.

The Commission FactBox

Open a sales document. The Commission FactBox shows the whole document:

Field Shows
Estimated Commission (LCY) The commission the document will earn. Choose it to open Explain Commission.
Salespeople Who earns, and how much. Choose it to open the document's Commission Credits.
Commissionable Sales (LCY) The sales that commission is calculated on.
Effective Rate % Commission as a percentage of the commissionable sales.
Lines Without Commission Lines that earn nothing.
Check A warning when something is missing, such as no salesperson, a salesperson without a plan, or an item without a cost.

The Line Commission FactBox

Select a line. The Line Commission FactBox shows the commission of that line, the Rate and where it came from (Rate Line, Margin Band, Manual Override or Customer Terms), and Why No Commission when the line earns nothing.

Explain Commission

On the document, choose Commission, then Explain Commission. For every line you see who earns, every rate line of every component with its result (such as Used, Customer Does Not Match, Product Does Not Match, Dimension Does Not Match, Outside Dates, Less Specific, Excluded or Overridden), the rate and the amount.

Explain Commission listing the rate lines considered for each sales line, with the one used

Explain Commission: which rate line was used, and why the others were not.

Good to know

  • The estimate uses the full quantity of each line, shipped or not, and the plans in force on the document's posting date (or the work date when it is blank).
  • Commission is earned only when you post the invoice or credit memo. Shipping alone earns nothing, and preview posting writes nothing.
  • On an open credit memo or return order, the estimate is calculated as a new negative sale. When you post it, it takes back what the invoice earned. See Returns and clawbacks.
