Sales and posting

Posting and the Commission Trace

What posting writes, the commission on posted invoices, and how the trace explains every amount.

updated: applies-to: 2.0.0.0

When you post a sales invoice or credit memo, Bitta Commission writes the commission. Nothing is posted to the general ledger at that moment. The Commission Trace explains every amount, from the sale to the payment.

What posting writes

  • One commission entry per salesperson, document, plan and component. Search for Commission Ledger Entries to see them.
  • Detailed entries for every change to an entry: Earned, Released, Adjusted, Paid, Reversed, Clawback. They are only ever added, never changed.
  • Earning lines: one per sales line, with every input frozen at posting (base, cost, margin, rate, rate line, band and the reason when it earned nothing). Returns, recalculations and the trace read these frozen lines, so history stays true after you change a plan.

Commission on the posted invoice

Open the posted sales invoice. The Commission FactBox shows:

Field Shows
Status No commission, Waiting for customer payment, Payable, Partly paid, Paid, On hold or Reversed.
Salespeople Who earned, and how much.
Earned (LCY), Waiting for Payment (LCY), Payable (LCY), Paid (LCY) Where the commission stands.

The posted invoice: earned, waiting for the customer to pay.

From the FactBox, choose Commission Trace or Commission Entries.

Read the Commission Trace

The trace shows, without recalculating anything:

  • Summary: the document, customer, posting date, status and the earned, payable, paid and to-be-paid amounts.
  • Each entry: salesperson, role, plan and component.
  • How it was calculated: per line, the sold quantity, deductions, share, base, cost and where it came from, margin, the rate line or band, and the commission or the reason it earned nothing.
  • What happened after: earned, released, paid, reversed and clawed back, with dates, documents and settlement numbers.

The trace answers "why this amount" from the frozen inputs.

You can also open the trace from Commission Ledger Entries with Trace.

Commission Ledger Entries

Commission Ledger Entries with the earned, payable and paid amounts per salesperson and plan

One entry per salesperson, document, plan and component.

Actions on the entries: Detailed Entries, Earning Lines, Trace and Dimensions, and the corrections in Hold, reassign and recalculate.

Good to know

  • Commission is earned on the invoiced quantity. Lines with quantity 0 are ignored.
  • Every posted line gets an earning line, even when it earns nothing, with the reason.
  • A document with a reason code marked No Commission Impact writes no commission.
