Pay commission

Hold, reassign and recalculate

Hold commission, reverse an entry, move commission to another salesperson or recalculate after a setup mistake.

Posted commission is never edited. To correct it, you hold it, reverse it, move it to another salesperson or recalculate it. Each correction posts new entries, and what was already paid is settled on the next settlement. All of these are actions on Commission Ledger Entries.

Commission Ledger Entries with the Hold, Release Hold, Reverse, Reassign Salesperson and Recalculate actions

Corrections are actions on the commission entries.

Hold and release a hold

Select the entries and choose Hold. Enter a Reason Code. Settlements and the release job skip entries on hold. Use it while a salesperson questions a sale.

Choose Release Hold to clear the hold. The payable amount is brought up to date at once.

Reverse an entry

Choose Reverse, confirm, and enter a Posting Date, Reason Code and Description. An entry with the opposite amounts is posted. Use it for a journal line posted by mistake.

Reassign to another salesperson

Choose Reassign Salesperson and enter the New Salesperson Code, Reassign Mode, Posting Date and Reason Code.

Reassign Mode What happens
Recalculate with New Salesperson's Plans Reverses the old salesperson's entries on the invoice, puts the new salesperson in their place and calculates the commission with the new salesperson's plans. For invoice entries.
Move the Same Amount Reverses each entry and posts the same amount for the new salesperson.

Example: Maya earned 50.00 at 5% on an invoice and was paid. She moves to another region, and the account goes to Daniel, whose plan pays 4%. With Recalculate, Maya's 50.00 is reversed (taken back on her next settlement) and Daniel earns 40.00. With Move the Same Amount, Daniel earns 50.00. A later return follows Daniel.

Recalculate after a setup mistake

Fix the plan or rate line first. Then select the invoice's entries and choose Recalculate. The Recalculate Commission page shows, per invoice, salesperson and plan, the Old Amount (LCY), New Amount (LCY) and Difference (LCY). Enter a Posting Date and Reason Code and choose Post Recalculation. Only invoices whose amounts change are reposted.

Recalculate Commission showing the old and new amount and the difference per invoice

Check the difference before you post it.

Example: a rate line was typed as 0.5% instead of 5%. After you fix it, Recalculate shows Old 5.00, New 50.00, Difference 45.00.

Good to know

  • Recalculate uses today's setup with the invoice's own posting date, so dated rate lines and assignments still apply as they were on that date.
  • Recalculate refuses invoices that a credit memo already took commission back from. Correct those with the commission journal.
  • A closed period blocks corrections dated inside it.
