Receive and hold vendor stock
Scan and count
Count consignment stock and enter customer usage with a scanner or a phone camera, and open the right count for any location with Count Consignment Stock.
updated: applies-to: 1.0.0.0
Sales reps count stock at hospitals and shops, and warehouse staff count the shelves, often with a phone or a tablet. Two tools make this quick: Scan Lines enters lines with a scanner or a camera, and Count Consignment Stock opens the right count for any location, so nobody has to know how a location is set up.
Count Consignment Stock
Search for Consignment Physical Counts and choose Count Consignment Stock, or choose it on the Location Card or in the Consignment menu of your role center.
- Enter the Location Code. Count With shows the count that the location uses, and What Happens explains it.
- For a vendor consignment location, enter the Vendor No. A consignment physical count counts one vendor. Set an Item Filter and a Bin Filter to count part of the stock, and check the Posting Date.
- Choose OK. The count opens, already filled with the stock to count.
| Location | Count that opens |
|---|---|
| Vendor consignment location | A new Consignment Physical Count with Calculate Expected run |
| Customer site | A new Consignment Site Count with the expected quantities calculated |
| Warehouse Mode location | The Physical Inventory Journal with Calculate Inventory run for the location |
| Warehouse Mode location with directed put-away and pick | The Warehouse Physical Inventory Journal with Calculate Inventory run per bin |
At a Warehouse Mode location, vendor stock is native inventory, so it is counted where your own stock is counted. Enter Qty. (Phys. Inventory) and post the journal: each difference updates the stock of the vendor that owns the units. With a vendor, the journal covers the items that the vendor has in stock there. At a directed location, register the warehouse journal, then post the differences with Calculate Warehouse Adjustment in the item journal, as for any directed location.
NOTE
A consignment physical count cannot use a Warehouse Mode location. If you enter one, the message offers Count Consignment Stock, which opens the journal of that location.
Scan lines
Open a Consignment Usage Report, a Consignment Site Count or a Consignment Physical Count and choose Scan Lines. On a count, choose Calculate Expected first.
- On a count whose lines already have counted quantities, Business Central asks whether to count from zero. Choose Yes: every scan then adds one unit, and lines, serial numbers and lots you do not scan are posted as missing. Choose No to add the scans to the quantities already counted.
- Scan, or type and press Enter, in the Scan box. A scan can be:
- an item barcode (an item reference of type Bar Code, or the customer's or vendor's own reference): it adds the quantity of the reference's unit of measure, for example 6 for a box of 6;
- an item number: it adds one unit of an untracked item;
- a serial number: it adds one unit, once;
- a lot number: it adds one unit per scan, or asks for the quantity when Ask for Lot Quantity is selected;
- on a physical count at a location with bins, a bin code: the next scans count in that bin.
- Last Scan tells you what was added, highlighted, or why nothing was added. The Scanned list shows every scan, newest first.
- On a phone or tablet with a camera, choose Scan with Camera. The camera scans one barcode after another until you close it.
- Close the page when you are done, check the lines and post as usual.
Each scan adds to the line with the same item, variant and, on a physical count, bin, or creates that line. A scanned serial number or lot goes to that line's item tracking: on a count it adds to the counted quantity of the serial or lot (a found unit that was not expected gets a new row), on a usage report it adds an item tracking line and raises the line's quantity with it. One line per item holds all its scanned serials and lots; choose Item Tracking Lines on the line to check them. Usage reports add in the base unit of measure.
Lines of an earlier version that carry their own serial or lot number are still matched on that number.
When a scan is refused
A scan that cannot be used adds nothing and does not stop you: the message says why, and you scan the next code.
- A code that is not an item barcode, item number, serial number or lot number at the location.
- A serial number that is already on the document.
- A lot number that two items use at the location: scan the item barcode first, then the lot.
- An item counted in more than one bin, or a new line at a location with bins: scan the bin first.
- On a usage report, an item, serial or lot that is not stock at the site.
The item number of a tracked item adds nothing: scan the serial or lot number of each unit. On a count, a serial or lot number that is not in stock, scanned after its item, is a unit you found: it is added to the item's line with nothing expected.
TIP
Set the default for lots in Consignment Setup, Ask for Lot Quantity on Scan. Users can change it on the Scan Lines page for one session.
NOTE
Package numbers cannot be scanned. Enter them on Item Tracking Lines.
