Receive and hold vendor stock

Bins and variants

Keep vendor consignment stock in bins and by item variant: required bins, moving between bins, choosing the bin on a sale and what warehouse handling covers.

updated: applies-to: 1.0.0.0

Vendor consignment stock is recorded by location, bin and item variant, as your own stock is. Each Consignment Ledger entry carries a Location Code, a Bin Code and a Variant Code, so the Consignment Stock page, counts and sales can work bin by bin and variant by variant.

Bins on consignment documents

  • When a location has Bin Mandatory switched on, every consignment line at that location needs a Bin Code. Posting stops with the message that the location uses bins until you enter one.
  • The bin must exist at the line's location.
  • A transfer needs a To Location Code and, at a bin location, a To Bin Code. Moving stock to the location and bin it is already in is refused.
  • You cannot delete a bin while it holds vendor consignment stock. Move the stock to another bin first.

Move stock between bins

Use either:

  • a Consignment Transfer document, with the target bin in To Bin Code on each line; or
  • the Consignment Journal, with Entry Type Reclassification and the target bin in New Bin Code.

Both write a Transfer entry pair and keep the original Received Date, so aging does not restart. See Move, adjust and count.

Bins on sales lines

A drop-shipment sales line has no native bin, because Business Central ships it directly from the vendor. Bitta Consignment adds Consignment Bin Code to the sales line to say which bin the consigned stock comes from.

  • When you choose stock with Select Consignment Stock, the bin is filled in for you.
  • Leave Consignment Bin Code empty to take the oldest stock of the vendor in any bin at the location.
  • When you enter a bin, the availability check and the posting look at that bin only.

NOTE

For untracked items, stock committed to sales lines that name a bin counts against that bin. Lines without a bin count only against the vendor's total at the location. Serial and lot stock is committed by its serial or lot wherever it sits.

Variants

  • An item that has variants needs a Variant Code on every consignment line. The column is shown on consignment documents, the journal, Get Consignment Stock, the ledger entries and the settlement, and is marked as required for items whose variants are mandatory.
  • A blocked variant cannot be received, moved or sold.
  • On a sales line, changing the variant or the location proposes the vendor again: the vendor with the oldest stock of that variant at that location.
  • The Consignment Stock page, the stock report and the FactBoxes show quantities per variant.

See who owns what in each bin

Vendor stock and your own stock can share a bin. Consignment Bin Contents shows them side by side. Open it from the location card, the item card, the Bins and Bin Contents pages, or search for it.

  • Set the Location Filter, Bin Filter, Vendor Filter and Item Filter, and choose Refresh.
  • Each row has an Owner: the vendor, or Own stock. Vendor Quantity, Committed and Available are the vendor's stock; Own Quantity is yours. Choose a quantity to see the entries behind it.
  • Mixed Bins Only shows only bins that hold both. Expiring On or Before shows stock that expires by a date.
  • Select vendor stock and choose Create Transfer, Create Physical Count, Create Ownership Change or Create Return to Vendor. The app creates one document per vendor and location, and a notification with Open Consignment Documents opens them.

Pick list and bin count sheet

  • Consignment Pick List prints the vendor stock to pick for released consignment sales orders, by location, bin, lot and serial number. Print it from the sales order, the location card or Consignment Bin Contents. Under Sales Order Lines on its request page, filter on Document No., Location Code and Shipment Date (for example ..t for everything due today).
  • Consignment Bin Count Sheet lists, bin by bin, your own stock and the vendor's stock with an Owner column, so one walk through the bins counts both. Under Bins to Count, filter on Location Code, Bin Code, Item No. and Variant Code. Post your own differences with the standard physical inventory journal and the vendor's with a consignment Physical Count.

Warehouse handling

At a normal vendor consignment location, vendor stock is recorded on the Consignment Ledger, not in warehouse entries. That means:

  • vendor stock is not handled by put-aways, picks, warehouse receipts or warehouse shipments, and directed put-away and pick does not apply to it. When a location that holds vendor stock uses warehouse shipments, picks or directed put-away and pick, a notification on its location card reminds you to print the Consignment Pick List for the picker;
  • bins are recorded on the consignment entries and checked against the location's bins. When a bin that holds vendor stock gets Block Movement set to All, a notification warns that the stock cannot be sold, moved, counted or returned until you clear it.

For locations that need warehouse receipts, picks, shipments or scanners for vendor stock, use Warehouse Mode: vendor stock is native inventory at zero value there. See Warehouse Mode. For production, assembly or projects, buy the stock out first with an Ownership Change. See Buy-out and aging.

Customer consignment sites are normal locations with your own stock, so warehouse handling works there as usual.
