Estimated commission

Show reps what a Business Central sales quote, order or invoice would earn before it posts, with the Estimated Commission FactBox priced from their plan.

updated: applies-to: 1.1.2.0

Bitta Commission adds an Estimated Commission FactBox to the Sales Quote, Sales Order and Sales Invoice pages. It shows what the document would earn the salesperson on it if it posted now, priced with that salesperson's published plan. This page shows you how to read the FactBox and the per-component estimate, how the amount is calculated, and why it is a modeled outcome, not an earning.

Before you start

  • The document needs a Salesperson Code, and that salesperson needs an effective salesperson link to a participant on the document date. See Participants.
  • The participant needs an active plan assignment to a Published or Active plan version on that date, and a commission period must cover the date. See Commission plans.
  • The FactBox, the Commission Estimate page and the estimator are granted by the Bitta Commission Simulation and AI permission set. The Bitta Commission Manager, Plan Designer, Setup Administrator and Auditor sets include it. The Bitta Commission Participant set does not. See Permission sets.

  1. Search for Sales Orders in Tell Me and open the list. The same steps work from Sales Quotes and Sales Invoices.
Sales Orders list with the open orders, including an order for the demo sales earner
Step 1: open the Sales Orders list.
  1. Open an open order. The Estimated Commission FactBox is the first FactBox on the page.
Sales Order card with the Estimated Commission FactBox showing the estimated commission in local currency, the participant, the components modeled and the note
Step 2: the Estimated Commission FactBox on a sales order.
Field What it shows
Estimated Commission (LCY) The modeled commission of the document across all plan components that could be estimated.
Participant The participant resolved from the document salesperson.
Components Modeled How many plan components could be estimated.
Note Why part of the estimate could not be modeled, if anything.
  1. Choose Open Estimate, or choose the Estimated Commission (LCY) amount, to open the Commission Estimate page. It has one line per plan component.
Commission Estimate page listing each plan component with period-to-date base, projected base, estimated commission, attainment before and after, and expected eligible date
Step 3: the per-component estimate.
Field What it shows
Plan / Plan Version No. / Component / Model The published plan version and component used, and its commission model.
Hypothetical Base The document amount in local currency.
Period The commission period that covers the document date.
Period-To-Date Base / Projected Base The base already credited in the period, and the base after the document.
Period-To-Date Earned / Projected Cumulative Entitlement The cumulative entitlement already recognized in the period, and after the document.
Estimated Commission The modeled commission of this document for the component.
Effective Rate % The estimated commission as a percent of the document base.
Quota Target / Attainment Before % / Attainment After % The quota target of the period, and attainment before and after the document, when a target exists.
Eligibility Trigger / Expected Eligible Date The payment policy trigger, and when the commission would become eligible.
Modeled / Calculated at Period Close / Explanation Whether the component could be modeled, whether it earns only at period close, and how the line was derived.

The Result Kind field at the top always reads "Modeled outcome, not earned or payable".

How the estimate is calculated

The estimator reads the document and your plan. It writes nothing.

  1. Date. The document's Posting Date, or else its Document Date, or else its Order Date, or else the work date.
  2. Base. The sum of the Amount of every document line that has a type, which excludes VAT. A document in a foreign currency is converted to local currency with the document's currency factor.
  3. Participant. The participant linked to the header Salesperson Code on that date. The whole base is used for that participant; credit split rules are not applied.
  4. Components. Every component, effective on the date, of the participant's active assignments to Published or Active plan versions.
  5. Amount. For each component, the estimator takes the period-to-date base and entitlement from your latest earning in the period, adds the document base, and prices the projected base with the component's rates, as the calculation engine selects them. The estimated commission is the projected cumulative entitlement minus the entitlement already recognized, so tier bands apply from where your period-to-date base stands.
  6. Eligibility. With the trigger On Posting, On Invoice or On Shipment, the expected eligible date is the document date plus the policy's Hold Days. With On Payment or On Full Payment, it is the document's Due Date (or the document date when it has none) plus the Hold Days. Other triggers leave it blank.

Only Flat Amount, Flat Rate, Tiered Rate, Progressive Tier, Retroactive Tier, Per Unit and Formula components are priced. Components that earn at period close, such as rankings and contests, are marked Calculated at Period Close and are not added to the total; when the close can be calculated on the results posted so far, the Explanation shows what it would pay. Other models are not added to the total either.

NOTE

The total is the same calculation for a quote, an order and an invoice. It is not weighted by how likely the document is to post.

When the FactBox shows no amount

The Note field gives the reason:

Note What to check
Only sales quotes, orders and unposted invoices are estimated. The document type is not estimated.
The document has no salesperson code, so no participant can be resolved. Enter a Salesperson Code on the document.
Salesperson ... has no effective participant link on ... Ask your administrator to link the salesperson to a participant for that date.
No active published plan assignment on ...; nothing to estimate. The participant has no live plan assignment on the date.
No commission period covers ...; period-to-date attainment cannot be read. Create the commission period for the date.
No effective active rate table for component ... on ... The component has no active rate table on the date.

What the estimate is not

The estimate is a modeled outcome. It is never saved as an earning, never creates a balance and never guarantees payment. The live calculation run remains authoritative. The estimate is for the salesperson on the document, not for the user who opens it, and it does not apply Commission User Scope. Your actual earnings appear in My Earnings once a calculation run has processed the posted document. For the reports that show earned and paid amounts, see Commission reports.
